Esmée is a female saltwater kelpie.
Not much is known about her at the moment, apart the fact she was banished from her herd, apparently for being infected with mange.
Esmée is a small saltwater kelpie mare with brownish fur and creme-colored stripes. She has a long, flowing black mane, black hooves and orange eyes. Because of mange, she has been scratching and infecting her wounds badly, which resulted in many scars on her body, and the very bad state of her tail and ears.
She has a long and thin snout, and her body is pretty thin but still muscular like saltwater kelpies usually are. Her legs have fin-like appendages, even in terrestrial appearance.
The look of her abyssal form is currently unknown.
So far, we didn't see much of Esmée's personality. She seems to be stubborn and quite sassy, but also quite self-centered, as she doesn't seem to understand why Wilbur wants to help her since he doesn't know her. Esmée doesn't have much hope for her future nor for the world she lives in, and believes kindness is quite useless and even dangerous, as it can make you vulnerable.
Esmée has a strong hate for pegasi, as she knows her father was killed by two of them. She gets mad when they are mentionned, and would totally slaughter any of them if she had the chance. She seems quite aggressive in general.
▪ Esmée is shorter than the average saltwater kelpie, being about the size of a freshwater kelpie.
▪ When she was first seen, she wasn't fed correctly, hence the loss of coloration of her red teeth (due to iron deficiency).
▪ She is the first actual saltwater kelpie character to appear in the story.
▪ It is implied that Esmée's father is the kelpie that The Enchantress killed and skinned to make her cloak.
