Deinos is a freshwater kelpie mare, and the mother of Kiersten.
She is called "Deinos the Terrible" by pegasi.
Deinos is a very dark-colored freshwater kelpie mare, the gradients on her fur and stripes appearing dark brown. She has pale blue eyes and white freckles on her snout, and always seems to have kelp in her mane. Her top left canine teeth is broken. She always has four teeth visible.
Her abyssal appearance has not be revealed yet.
Deinos is a kind and rather playful individual, happy to be of help when she can, a personality that doesn't really match the name she was given. However, she can be skittish and aggressive if she spots something at the surface, thinking it is prey. Overall, Deinos seems quite chill about everything around her when not looking for something to eat.
Oro
Deinos appears to be truly sorry after she attacked Oro, and claims she thought he was a deer. She isn't aggressive anymore after this and even helps Oro find the plants he was looking for. The rest of their story, and relationship, are yet to be discovered, but it is clear they loved each other enough to have Kiersten.
Kiersten
Not much is known about the relationship Deinos and Kiersten had, but Kiersten briefly mentioned in episode 7 that Deinos taught her how to hunt with respect for nature and life.
▪ Deinos means "terrible" in Greek. Pegasi called her "Deinos the terrible", hinting that she already attacked pegasi in the past, probably mistaking them for prey.
▪ She was named this way as a reference to the Mares of Diomedes from Greek mythology, who were a herd of flesh-eating horses, similar to kelpies.
